Background and career to date

As a law graduate who first trained as a teacher Ian returned to his legal roots and qualified as a solicitor in 1989. Since then he has handled a wide range of litigation matters with an emphasis on family cases. Having spent almost ten years as a specialist children's lawyer he has for a number of years focussed more on divorce and finance.

A member of Resolution (formerly the Solicitiors' Family Law Association) he has a detailed knowledge of the law and procedures of matrimonial finance. He was in the first wave of solicitors to gain the right to present cases in the Higher Courts as a Solicitor Advocate. He has personal experience of divorce and believes that as a result he has a far better understanding of the trauma affecting separated families.

Outside interests

From cricket to tae kwon do, from skiing to hillwalking and from keeping poultry to field sports Ian has always kept himself busy across a wide range of activities.
